About.
Tess completed her Bachelor of Psychology in 2014. Over subsequent years, she pursued formal training in the practice of Yoga, observing the significant impact of mindfulness and embodiment on psychological wellbeing. She then went on to complete a two-year postgraduate training in psychotherapy and holistic counselling, practicing as a psychotherapist prior to the completion of her Masters in Psychology.
Areas of Expertise
Tess believes transformative psychotherapy is grounded in genuine connection, safe attachment, and deep compassion. She draws from the strength of the therapeutic relationship, integration of evidence-based intervention, and holistic health principles to foster greater self-acceptance, quality of life, and wellbeing.
Adopting a whole-person approach to mental health, Tess offers support to clients experiencing a broad range of mental health challenges.
In addition to her general work, she holds expertise in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, eating challenges, body dysmorphia, and body acceptance. Recognising the complex and often nuanced interplay between these challenges and other aspects of identity and wellbeing, she treats a range of frequently coexisting experiences, including anxiety and depressive disorders, gender diversity, diverse sexualities, and neurodivergence.
Her practice also embraces work with identity exploration, attachment concerns, shame and low self-esteem, perfectionism, loss, and life transition, providing support for clients navigating significant personal changes and emotional experiences.
Positionality
With awareness of her positionality as a white, able-bodied, cis-gendered, queer woman, Tess works to remain aware of the challenges experienced by those from marginalised communities. She is committed to creating an inclusive therapeutic environment and to supporting individuals who may feel marginalised in traditional healthcare spaces.
Style & Approach
Tess’ approach is fundamentally integrative, informed by her interest in psychodynamic and process-oriented styles of relating. She brings curiosity, sincerity, warmth, and depth to her therapeutic process.
Intervention is tailored to meet her clients’ unique needs and intentions. Drawing from a blend of evidence-based modalities, Tess endeavours to promote deep, reflective exploration and lasting shifts in cognitive and behavioural patterning.
Guided by social justice, weight-inclusive, trauma-informed, gender affirming and neuro-affirming principles, she works comfortably with diverse cultures, identities, bodies, and belief systems.
